Tree Bark
The Tree Atlas: South Central region from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) introduces the native trees of our region. The MNR site emphasizes leaves for identifying trees, but here we use bark. Reviewing tree bark can help identify trees during a Walk in the Woods, especially in winter! Not all species are present on our property.
Click on an image to learn more about a tree from the Ministry of Natural Resources. Click “That’s my tree!” to increment a counter and arrange for viewed trees to be at the top of the list; this makes it easy to learn common trees.
Implementation notes
The idea for this page came from a comment by Will F that it would be great to know what trees might make an appearance during A Walk in the Woods.
Google Gemini wrote most of the JavaScript and CSS code, although I prompted and made revisions.
